QUESTION: What are the Weights of the Various Aspects of Google's Algorithm?
Taken from a key member panel KeywordRanking Search Engine Marketing Open Forum at AD:TECH

This question brought a chuckle from the panel, as it's something of the million dollar question of search marketing. Basically, if you knew you could optimize sites perfectly every time.
There are a few basics that stand out though.
Mike Grehan indicated that he thinks Google's Page Rank method of determining a site's relevance is a smoke screen, which won a nervous guffaw from an audience member who clearly thought his statement to be heresy and who expected the Google police to come crashing through the ceiling to cart Mike off to Google headquarters for execution.
Mike suggested that those interested in the factors that have the most relevance to Google's algorithm read his article "Link Equity Explained."
Anchor text, he said, plays the most significant role in Google's algorithm, and reiterated that links from authority sites are vital to high rankings.
Heather Lloyd-Martin suggested that one way you generate these links from authority sites is to create great content for your site.
Ben Wills cited statements from Google where they said that they test at least a dozen algorithm factors every update cycle, and keep about half of these factors in place. There are several hundred factors he said that Google uses to determine ranking.
He also mentioned the importance to your rankings of including your researched keywords in your title tags and the link text in your linking campaigns.
Andy Beal said that you must know your target audience well and be certain of the words they use when searching for the products or services you offer. Know your goals and what you're targeting, he said.

Saying of the Week; - Press On

Nothing in the world can take the place of Persistance.

Talent will not;
Nothing is more common than unsuccessful people with talent.

Genius will not;
Unrewarded genius is almost legendary;

Education will not;
The world is full of educated derelicts.

Persistence and Determination alone are omnipotent.

- President Calvin Coolidge
