Microsoft Launches MSN Virtual Earth
By Chris Sherman

Microsoft has released a beta version of Virtual Earth, a web-based application that combines local search with maps and aerial photography. MSN has offered satellite imagery with maps with its local search results for quite some time. What's different with the new MSN Virtual Earth is that, like Google Earth, the display is focused primarily around maps and aerial views. You can zoom in and out of maps or images, and drag the images around within the display.
Also MSN is set to announce that it is merging the team building the MSN Virtual Earth service previewed by Microsoft Chairman Bill Gates last month with the MSN Search team.

Yahoo! to power Boeing in-flight search
By Robin Langford

Yahoo! has struck a deal with Connexion, a business unit of The Boeing Company, to provide a Web and sponsored search service for airline passengers. The multi-year deal will see Yahoo! used as the exclusive search engine on the Connexion by Boeing in-flight Internet service, providing airline passengers with the same Yahoo! search results as they would fine online.
Starting from the end of this year, users will be able to conduct searches via a Yahoo! search box located on the Connexion by Boeing air portal.
Passengers will receive listings from Yahoo?s Web and Overture's sponsored search results via a co-branded search results page.
David Friedman, vice president of marketing and direct sales, Connexion by Boeing, said: ?We know our customers place a high value on being able to stay connected to the information and people that are important to them while on the go, and this agreement ensures that our customers can easily find what they are looking for, even at 30,000 feet.?
Connexion by Boeing is currently offered on 100 flight routes worldwide, and provides high-speed Internet and entertainment services to airline passengers in flight. Business and leisure travelers can use their laptops to send and receive e-mails, connect to corporate networks, watch live global television, or surf the web.
