Secret Google lab has real people rating search results;
Google is apparently using real-live people to review and improve search-results quality. The
Search Bistro blog reveals (via
Search Engine Watch) Google's "secret lab" - Google Rater Hub: "What is it? It's a lab of humans from all over the world (from China to The Netherlands, from Korea to Brasil). They are paid to check search results of Google every day.... The aim is to avoid spam, to get the right sites at the top of the listing and to test new features, not shown to the public yet."
Want to get into Google's Index faster? Google introduces Google Sitemaps;
Google Sitemaps is free and allows you to tell Google which web sites it should crawl and it allows you to tell Google that the content on your site has changed.
Google said Sitemaps would not replace the crawl technology it uses to seek out web content and also said it does not guarantee that a site would be included in its index - nor would the new service effect how sites are ranked in search results.
By placing a Sitemap-formatted file on your webserver, you enable our crawlers to find out what pages are present and which have recently changed, and to crawl your site accordingly.
Basically, the two steps to participating in Google Sitemaps are:
- Generate a Sitemap in the correct format using Sitemap Generator.
- Update your Sitemap when you make changes to your site.
URLs to Google Sitemaps is to create a list of URLs in plain text format:
http://www.example.com/index.htm
http://www.example.com/page1.htm
http://www.example.com/page2.htm
http://www.example.com/directory/whatever.htm
Enter one URL per line and save that list with the file ending
.xml. Then
login to Google Sitemaps and upload that file. !
Google also offers a sophisticated
tool that allows you to create a sitemap but a plain list will also do. Third party
tools are also
available.
Will this increase your Google rankings?
No it will not, it will just tell Google your pages exist. If Google has not crawled your site yet then that most likely means you don't have any decent incoming links.
