Google is
now able to index Flash,
this is a major event and it surprises me more is not being
said about this especially amongst the SEO community. Google
has always been the first to index different types of content:
PDF files, .doc files, etc
Macromedia has a Flash Search Engine SDK (http://www.macromedia.com/software/flash/download/search_engine/)
The SDK (Software Development Kit) includes an application
named `swf2html'. Swf2html extracts text and links from a
Macromedia Flash .SWF file, and returns the data to stdout
or as an HTML document. Swf2html is provided as a compiled
application and as a static library for linked library implementation.
For complete functionality, see the file Readme.htm included
in the SDK.
Can Google survive boardroom
pressure post IPO? I love
this quote; "A management team distracted by a series
of short-term targets is as pointless as a dieter stepping
on a scale every half hour," the founders explained in
their now-famous letter to shareholders earlier this year.
Maybe there is hope for Google post IPO even facing the pressures
of delivering results for shareholders.
Google Browser?
What was that about a Google browser, the next logical step
after email (Gmail) and desktop search (Google Desktop Search)?
In an interview with the Financial Times, Google chief exec
Eric Schmidt said plainly; ?We are not building a browser?.
So there goes that rumour for now anyway. http://www.business-standard.com/iceworld/storypage.html?hpFlag=Y&chklogin=N&autono=170758&leftnm=lmnu9&leftindx=9&lselect=0
Up and coming web browser Firefox is looking to secure allies
as it prepares to challenge Microsoft's Internet Explorer
for browser dominance. One of the potential partners being
spoken of is search engine Google.
Google acquires KeyHole;
In unrelated news, just as Keyhole started to generate some
interest, Google just acquired the company for an undisclosed
amount. With Keyhole, you get a satellite image of the world
and can view streets in the major cities and political hotspots,
while finding local hospitals, restaurants and libraries.
Unlike traditional mapping technologies like MapQuest, Keyhole
creates a dynamic 3D interface for geographic information.
Keyhole is a great tool for anyone, from a travel agent to
a 13 year old studying geography.
