Yahoo Preparing
To Enter Desktop Search Wars
When dealing with Internet technologies, following
trends seems to be the norm. What one company does successfully,
the others will probably mimic in some shape or form. With
this in mind, Yahoo has also announced that they too will
be releasing a desktop search utility in the near future.
According to an article that appeared in Reuters, Yahoo CEO
Terry Semel revealed that his company was indeed preparing
a utility that will perform functions similar to those of
Blinkx, Copernic, and the Google Desktop Search. "Yahoo
is working on it. In short course, we'll have a desktop solution
as well," Semel said at a conference in Scottsdale, Arizona.
Has of today, Yahoo has not indicated a date on which their
desktop search utility will be available. Thanks to Andy Beal
for the heads up.
Google will offer its Desktop
Search feature to Mac computers, introducing
Google technology to a loyal group of computer users that
are'nt using the Windows operating system. Google?s
chief executive did not lay out a set schedule for the Mac
ready desktop search, but did confirm that it would be on
the way soon when asked. ?We intend to do it,?
Schmidt said at a University of California-Los Angeles conference
celebrating the Internet?s 35th anniversary.
