Beware of site submission, most of it is spam! There is a lot of confusion out there about search engine submissions, beware any company that states it will submit your site to hundreds of search engines and you will achieve rankings. In your market name 10 search engines? Ok if your market is global there are many to consider; submit your site to the majors ONCE and do some research.
How can I get my site listed in the search engines? Sounds simple but I am afraid there is lot to think about here. If your site is not search engine friendly or 'optimised' just submitting your site will not achieve rankings. The key to rankings is content and link popularity.
Of value also is the various directories out there including Yahoo and DMOZ.
